Celebrating a Decade of Excellence
Sol Plaatje University (SPU) celebrates ten years of quality teaching, learning, research, and community engagement.
The University was promulgated on 22 of August 2013 and accepted its first group of students in February 2014. As a result, the University kickstarted its 10th anniversary celebrations on 22 August 2023 by hosting a variety of programmes and activities for the twelve months until August 2024.

Our 10th Birthday Celebration
On 22 August 2023, we kick-started our grand celebrations with a balloon release and a cupcake handover to staff and students at the SPU Central Campus Square to mark our 10th birthday.
This milestone offers a moment to reflect on our journey, our purpose, and the positive change we aim to effect in the Northern Cape and the broader Higher Education landscape. Driven by our strategic vision, let’s continue our mission to be “The Light from Africa – for Humanity”.
