
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Severino Machingambi as the new Director of the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Programme Development (CTLPD) at SPU, effective from 1 September 2024.
Dr Machingambi brings a wealth of experience and expertise to SPU, having spent nine years as a Deputy Director in the Academic Support Services Division at the University of Mpumalanga. His distinguished career also includes roles as Deputy Director and Senior Researcher at the Teaching and Learning Development Centre at Mangosuthu University of Technology; Teaching Development Consultant at Walter Sisulu University; and Lecturer in Educational Foundations at Great Zimbabwe University.
Dr Machingambi holds a Doctor of Education Degree in Leadership Development, a Master of Education Degree in Educational Foundations, a Bachelor of Arts Degree, a Postgraduate Diploma in Tertiary Education, and a Diploma in Education. Additionally, he has received training and certification in Assessment and Moderation of Learning in Higher Education and Curriculum Development in Higher Education. His scholarly contributions are well recognised, with extensive publications on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and numerous conference presentations both locally and internationally. He is currently supervising and examining postgraduate students at master’s and doctoral levels.
In his new role, Dr Machingambi will lead, manage, and foster a vibrant teaching and learning culture at SPU. His responsibilities at CTLPD will include overseeing leadership and planning in teaching development, student academic support, learning technology, and research. Furthermore, Dr Machingambi will be instrumental in strengthening academic staff competencies, enhancing e-learning capabilities, and advancing curriculum development and quality assurance standards.
