Former SPU SRC President, Mr Thabo Moilwa, was appointed by University Sports South Africa (USSA) as the Deputy Chef de Missions of the South African delegation that will represent the country at the 31st World University Summer Games to be held in Chengdu, China in August 2021.

In a brief sit down with Mr Moilwa, he defined the term ‘Deputy Chef de Missions’ and said that “The term simply means a Deputy Head of delegation who is responsible for overseeing the team’s travel logistics and sits on the disciplinary and events committees of team South Africa. I also coordinate the medical team.”

“My dream is to see Sol Plaatje University being represented at the Olympic Games by our student athletes soon. Construction on our sports ground will soon be completed and hopefully this will attract top student athletes,” said Mr Moilwa.

Currently preparations for the competition have halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic however Moilwa remains optimistic as he believes that an athlete does not wait to be told to train, athletes take the initiative to ensure that they remain in good health and perform at the required fitness level required for elite athletes.

SPU wishes Moilwa the best in this important role where he will not only fly the South African flag high but also that of Sol Plaatje University.
