On 6 April 2024, future Gemmies got a glimpse into student life at Sol Plaatje University (SPU) during the annual SPU Open Day. Learners explored our state-of-the-art laboratories, classrooms and SPU’s digital library, which provided a glimpse into the vibrant academic life on offer.
The day began with the Vice-Chancellor’s Breakfast, where high school principals from across the Northern Cape region engaged with the University leadership. “The Founding SPU Strategic Plan was crafted in response to the university’s environment and its high aspirations. We have broadened SPU’s presence in regions such as Upington, Carnarvon, Postmasburg, De Aar, Colesberg, Alexander Bay, Port Nolloth, Springbok, and Pofadder as part of our commitment to knowledge creation and social justice. I am keen to collaborate with you all to ensure we nurture graduates who are competent and capable of fulfilling societal aspirations,” said Prof Andrew Crouch, SPU’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal.
Fueling the Future
Voted as one of the coolest university brands in SA in 2023, SPU showcased its unique offerings, including niche programmes such as Data Science, Agriculture, Heritage Studies, Court Interpreting, Creative Writing, Teacher Education and Entrepreneurship. The Central Campus reverberated with excitement as learners explored and interacted with our exceptional staff about financial aid, bursaries, scholarships and programme choices, all in a bid to empower informed decision-making.
In his address to the learners Prof Andrew Crouch encouraged them to choose SPU for their educational journey, highlighting the university’s commitment to excellence.
University Registrar, Dr Jody Cedras thanked the learners for joining SPU’s Open Day 2024. “You, our future innovators and scholars, are our esteemed guests here today.
