With the vaccination ramping up in importance to allow South Africa to move towards herd immunity, the University’s Health and Wellness Centre launched its vaccination campaign in September 2021.
The campaign, which included free vaccinations for staff and students, had the support and assistance of the Department of Health.
Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Andrew Crouch, and the Dean of Students, Ms Nicole Morris, visited the vaccination sites and met with the Department of Health staff and visitors.
The six-day campaign took place over two three-day bursts.
Professor Crouch and Ms Morris also received their vaccination, which they celebrated by having their “I am vaccinated” photographs taken.
“The COVID-19 vaccination is critical if we ever want to go back to our pre-COVID-19 life,” said Student Affairs. On reflection, Student Affairs remarked: “The COVID-19 pandemic has opened our eyes to the vulnerability of humanity and showed us that life can be made different and possibly, better.”
“However, more engagement was needed to educate the population on the vaccine and its side effects.”
“There is a genuine fear for vaccination, and regular education is needed to address these fears,” concluded Student Affairs.
