For Orefile Jacob Kolobe, using AI well has always been a question of honesty. The second-year Bachelor of Arts (General) student at Sol Plaatje University (SPU) has now been selected as a GPTZero Brand Ambassador, a role that will see him championing AI literacy and academic integrity among his peers.
Kolobe earned the position after completing GPTZero’s four-week Teaching Responsibly with AI series, receiving a certificate and then applying to join the ambassador programme. GPTZero is an AI-detection and writing-verification platform used in academic and publishing settings, and its ambassadors are students and educators interested in how institutions can adopt AI honestly and responsibly.
For Kolobe, it is about more than a title.
“I want to help fellow students use AI with confidence and honesty. AI isn’t going away, so the real skill is learning to work with it in a way that still values our own thinking and our own voice.”
As an ambassador, he will help raise awareness around responsible AI use, share student perspectives that feed into how the platform develops, and connect with a wider community grappling with the same questions SPU is asking: how do we hold onto integrity, curiosity and honest work in the age of generative AI?
Kolobe hopes to host a short AI-literacy session for the SPU community in due course, open to students, tutors, peer mentors and educators, exploring how to read AI-detector results, AI policy in the classroom, and the link between media literacy and AI literacy. Details will be shared once the arrangements are confirmed.
He describes himself as a dedicated and ambitious student with a love for the humanities, education, entrepreneurship and the creative arts, and is passionate about writing, teaching, and using his skills to make a difference in his community.
