Speaker bio:
Professor Gilbert Pwiti, an expert in southern African prehistoric farming communities and the development of complex societies, has published extensively in accredited journals and monographs. His research also encompasses cultural heritage management.
Prof Pwiti has held positions in numerous international professional bodies, including Executive Secretary of the PanAfrican Association for Prehistory and Related Studies and President of the World Archaeological Congress. He has been an Advisory Board member for World Archaeology, African Archaeological Review, and Zimbabwea journals. His previous roles include Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe and Board member of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority.
Currently, Prof Pwiti is involved in two major international research projects: the Cosmo-Art rock art research project (collaborating with the University of Bordeaux, France and institutions in South Africa, Namibia, and Australia) and the University of Zimbabwe’s Archaeology and Heritage Management project, “The Past in the Present: the Zimbabwe Culture and Other Archaeological Heritage in North-Western Zimbabwe” (in partnership with German institutions).
