Large Donation to SPU’s Student Representative Council

The Motsepe Foundation, in their commitment to support students in higher education, donated R1 million to the Sol Plaatje University (SPU) Student Representative Council (SRC). This donation is made to assist the SRC to carry out programmes that will alleviate student debt, support mental health wellness and women’s wellbeing, and promote gender equality. Areas which Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, Co-Founder and CEO of the Motsepe Foundation, consider underserved and important aspects of student life.

“It is my hope that this donation alleviates some of the pressures placed on the institution,” said Dr Moloi-Motsepe.

Vice-Chancellor and Principal of SPU Prof Andrew Crouch expressed his gratitude to the Motsepe Foundation.

“Thank you for the donation made to our SRC. This donation will strategically support their programmes which focus on addressing the inequalities caused by social injustices in society, and balance the gap created by poverty and lack of education in South Africa. The Motsepe Foundation’s commitment to ubuntu is commendable and will lay the foundation for future generations to emulate your generosity and thereby improve the quality of life for all,” said Prof Crouch.

SPU is immensely grateful for this donation which will help SPU to provide our students with a safe and quality environment where teacing and learning takes place.
