Launching CAHAU – A new era for campus living at SPU

The Residence Office at Sol Plaatje University (SPU) will soon transition to its new name, the Campus Housing and Accommodation Unit (CAHAU). Although both monikers have coexisted on campus over recent months, the imminent CAHAU is eager to unveil its freshly minted name, now recognised as an official SPU sub-brand.

This significant transition will be celebrated on Monday, 21 August 2023, at the SPU Multipurpose Hall. The event is set to be a historic juncture in SPU’s timeline, establishing CAHAU as the recognised brand for the university’s community and laying the groundwork for future staff and students. The core ambition behind CAHAU is to instil a unique culture and identity for students in residence, while also amplifying the brand’s visibility across all of SPU’s residences. This branding metamorphosis followed an extensive stakeholder consultative process that involved in-depth exploration of character names from Solomon T Plaatje’s novel, Mhudi, which inspired the naming of SPU’s on-campus residences and off-campus clusters.

Attendees can anticipate an engaging event programme, including enlightening addresses by keynote speakers, lively entertainment, and a showcase of the residences’ new apparel. This new gear for residents symbolises the unique brand identity and ethos of each residence. With this rebranding, CAHAU aspires to portray the residences’ names, culture, emotions, personalities, and the depth of the characters they represent.

Central to CAHAU’s branding endeavour is the intent to cultivate a profound sense of pride and belonging for all residents, particularly those living within our residences.
