Postgraduate merit bursary award for 2026

Sol Plaatje University invites eligible students to apply for the Postgraduate Merit Award bursary for the 2026 academic year. This bursary provides financial support to full time Postgraduate Diploma, Honours and Master’s students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance and are committed to advancing their expertise in academia, research, innovation or related disciplines.
 
Eligibility
Full time students may apply if they meet the following requirements:
 
Honours or Postgraduate Diploma applicants
• Obtained an average of 65 percent or higher in the relevant undergraduate degree
• Completed the undergraduate degree in minimum or record time
• Provide proof of unemployment for service requirements
 
Master’s applicants
• Obtained an average of 65 percent or higher in the relevant Honours degree or Postgraduate Diploma
• Obtained an average of 65 percent or higher in the research project component where applicable
 
What the bursary covers
• Tuition fees only
 
Award conditions
• Awards are granted for one academic year and do not carry over
• Awards are restricted to tuition fees on the student account
• The bursary cannot be used to pay outstanding fees
• A new application is required each year
• The award is intended for full time unemployed students. Employed applicants do not qualify.
 
Service requirements
Recipients contribute to the academic environment through tasks and activities set by their faculty or the university.
• Honours and Postgraduate Diploma students complete 6 hours per week
• Master’s students complete 8 hours per week
