SPU’s Accredited Off-Campus Accommodation Office (AOCA) hosted a successful community outreach event on 5 July 2024. The initiative brought together the AOCA House Committee, the Health and Wellness Centre, Career Services, SPU Sport, and student volunteers to support local residents by hosting a soup kitchen.
Preparation for the event began days in advance, with volunteers dedicating their time and effort to ensure everything ran smoothly. Donations of ingredients were sourced from SPU staff members and individuals.
On the day of the event, the atmosphere was filled with a sense of purpose and camaraderie.
Over 50 meals were served, making a significant impact on the lives of those who attended. The soup kitchen not only provided nourishment but also offered a space for interactions and connections. Students and staff engaged in meaningful conversations with the community members.
“We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support from staff and local business Templar Residence for allowing the team to use their facilities to prepare the meals. This event is a testament to the power of collaboration and the positive impact we can make when we come together,” said Mr Adonis Shikwambana, Manager: Campus Housing & Accommodation at SPU.
The community initiative exemplifies the institution’s dedication to fostering a compassionate and inclusive community. This initiative reinforced the values of empathy and service that lie at the heart of the University’s mission.
