Sol Plaatje University’s School of Humanities cordially invites you to the annual Dit is ‘n Noord-Kaap ding colloquium, in collaboration with the University of the Western Cape. Come and experience the language, history, natural beauty, activism, and culture of the Northern Cape.
Dit is ‘n Noord-Kaap ding is a unique multidimensional event that brings together stakeholders from various spheres whose work focuses on the Northern Cape. These stakeholders include academics, language, and cultural activists, NPOs and performing artists. The colloquium is a collaboration between University of the Western Cape (UWC) and Sol Plaatje University (SPU) and takes place from 17 – 19 October 2022 at SPU.
The colloquium has an intriguing 3-day programme which is set to evoke thought-provoking and insightful conversations.
The programme kick-starts on Monday, 17 October from 09h00 at the Old Library space, Ground Floor in Building C003 on Central Campus, during which the Rector of UWC, Prof Tyrone Pretorius and the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of SPU, Prof Andrew Crouch, will address the audience.
Part two of Monday’s programme includes a community screening of The Broken String – a documentary film shot in Upington which feature two Bushmen who offer a sombre reflection of past and current injustices endured by the Bushman (San) people in South Africa. The screening takes place from 16:00 – 18:00 at Auditorium 1 on SPU’s Central Campus. Community members and SPU students interested in attending the screening should RSVP by 14 October to [email protected] or sign-up at Room 203, Second Floor in Academic building C003 from 10:00 – 15:00.
The rest of the programme promises stimulating and captivating presentations from various speakers on relevant and pertinent topics pertaining to the Northern Cape.
