Twin brothers Kutlo and Kutlwano Motlhloiwa, matriculants from Kimberley Technical High School, were named among the Northern Cape’s top matric achievers for the Class of 2024 – a powerful testament to their dedication, discipline and the support received through SPU’s Talent Pipeline Programme (TPP).
Both brothers earned places in the provincial Top 10, with Kutlo honoured as the Northern Cape’s Top Achiever and Kutlwano achieving six distinctions. Their outstanding results reflect not only their personal drive for academic excellence but also the holistic support they received through the TPP – including structured mentorship, academic enrichment and targeted psychosocial guidance designed to strengthen resilience, motivation and emotional wellbeing.
The TPP supports high-potential learners across the Northern Cape by providing intensive academic enrichment, psychosocial development and life skills training – ensuring they are well-prepared for entry into higher education. For learners like Kutlo and Kutlwano, the programme offered not only academic reinforcement but also a consistent support system of teachers, mentors and learning communities that helped sharpen their academic focus and build confidence.
Backed by partners such as De Beers, Assmang (Beeshoek Mine) and Sishen Iron Ore (Kolomela Mine), the TPP plays a vital role in ensuring talented learners from underserved communities have access to the opportunities, tools and support needed to excel.
To date, 129 learners have completed the programme, with 29 registering at SPU – a strong indicator of the programme’s growing impact. The success of Kutlo and Kutlwano is a demonstration of what’s possible when young talent is supported and nurtured in the right environment.
