Update: Response to COVID-19

In the interests of safety and security of Sol Plaatje University (SPU) and the broader Kimberley community, the SPU community is hereby informed of the following action plan in response to the COVID-19 outbreak in South Africa:

  1. In order to put stringent measures in place for occupational health and safety purposes, the University will be shut-down for the period 18 to 20 March 2020. This, however, excludes those staff performing essential services in the residences, which includes the wardens, catering staff and campus security.
  2. Recess for students will begin on Monday, 23 March 2020 and the academic programme will resume on Wednesday, 15 April 2020.
  3. While we recognise the challenges, students are kindly requested to vacate their residences by Friday, 20 March 2020, for their own safety.  No catering or other services will be available from Saturday, 21 March 2020.
  4. The Library will be closed during the recess.
  5. As of Monday, 23 March 2020 flexible working options for staff will be determined by line managers.

Regular updates will be provided to the SPU Community and urge the community to stay informed.
