In celebration of Women’s Month, we invite you to attend the SPU Women’s Month Public Lecture. This year, Dr Nthabiseng Moleko, a distinguished Development Economist and Senior Lecturer at the Stellenbosch Business School, is our guest speaker.
Annually, on 9 August, South Africa commemorates Women’s Day to pay tribute to the bravery, resilience, and strength of women across the nation. It stands as a compelling reminder of the ongoing struggle for gender equity and the continuous efforts required to foster a society premised on social justice. The origins of this observance can be traced back to the historic 1956 Women’s March, a watershed moment when over 20 000 women from diverse backgrounds marched to Pretoria’s Union Buildings to protest against the discriminatory pass laws, underscoring the instrumental role women played in the pursuit of freedom and equality.
As SPU celebrates 10 years of excellence, we seek to engage our community on the democratic issues of our society, focusing on gender equity and women’s empowerment.
Dr Moleko’s extensive background as the former Deputy Chairperson and Commissioner of the Commission for Gender Equality, author, and leader in economic development will enrich our discussion on shaping a more inclusive society. Her insights will inspire us to think critically and creatively about our roles in fostering change.
