
Sol Plaatje University’s (SPU) Employee Wellness Office marked the close of Women’s Month on 30 August with a vibrant brunch at Ballim Square, Luka Jantjie House. This event, the culmination of a series of empowerment activities held throughout August, celebrated the strength, grace, and resilience of the women at SPU.
Throughout the month, the Employee Wellness Office hosted several events for women, including sessions on Women and Finances: The Importance of Saving, Women and Parenting, and Women and Relationships. These events aimed to provide practical tools and insights for personal and professional growth, fostering an environment where women feel valued, empowered, and supported in all aspects of their lives.
The final event, the Women’s Month Brunch, featured a floral-inspired Spring theme that ushered in a new season of elegance and inspiration. Director of Human Resources, Ms Neo Bila officially opened the event with a powerful message: “As we embark on this new season, let us recognise the incredible value that each woman brings to our university and beyond. The contributions of our female employees, who work tirelessly to make this institution one of excellence, innovation, and inclusion, are truly appreciated. Your dedication, passion, and hard work do not go unnoticed.”
Chief Financial Officer, Ms Annalene Marais delivered the keynote address, offering valuable insights on leading a successful career while balancing the demands of work, life, and motherhood. Sol Plaatje University takes pride in supporting the advancement of women and remains committed to creating a conducive environment where they can thrive. Attendees also gained financial literacy tips from FNB’s financial advisor, Ms Miranda Dali, who emphasised the importance of building a legacy for their families.
The best-dressed competition added a touch of fun, with Ms Estee Van Schalkwyk taking First Prize (R1000 gift voucher), Ms Ellen Setlhodi securing Second Prize (R500 gift voucher), and Ms Elda Albertus winning Third Prize (R300 gift voucher).
