On 22 May 2026, Dr. Gail Motlhaudi-Banda directed and facilitated the Women’s Dialogue hosted by the Student Women Economic Empowerment Programme (SWEEP) chapter at Sol Plaatje University (SPU). Held under the theme “Success Now, Mental Health Later,” the dialogue provided a safe and empowering platform for meaningful conversations on the realities facing young women as they pursue academic excellence, entrepreneurship, leadership, and personal success. The event encouraged participants to openly reflect on the pressures associated with achievement while highlighting the importance of prioritising mental well-being alongside professional and academic aspirations. Through engaging discussions, the dialogue fostered a supportive environment where students could share experiences, build resilience, and strengthen their networks.
The keynote address was delivered by Ms. Evelyn Maruping, a Marketing, Partnerships and Project Management Consultant, entrepreneur, and creative strategist recognised for her commitment to empowering young people through innovation, storytelling, and leadership. As the 2023 MTN Women in Digital Business Challenge Winner and a recipient of an award for her contribution to youth empowerment, innovation, and entrepreneurship within the creative sector, Ms. Maruping inspired attendees with her personal journey and practical insights on balancing ambition with well-being. Under Dr. Motlhaudi-Banda’s leadership, the Women’s Dialogue reinforced SWEEP’s mission of equipping young women with the confidence, knowledge, and support needed to thrive as future entrepreneurs and leaders while recognising that sustainable success must include caring for one’s mental health.
