Sol Plaatje University (SPU) hosted the South African Council on Higher Education (CHE) on 11 and 12 March 2025 for a series of engagements with different university stakeholders on the new Quality Assurance Framework (QAF) which is being implemented across the higher education sector.
On 11 March, Dr Britta Zawada, QAF Implementation Coordinator at the CHE presented a workshop on capacity development and modes of teaching and learning provision at SPU. The focus was on the QAF’s Higher Education Practice Standards (HEPS) initiative for quality assurance that every higher education institution must consider and adhere to in all aspects of its activities and curriculum provisioning. The workshop helped to build a common understanding of the HEPS in relation to the changes to the modes of provision. SPU, like all other universities will need to demonstrate its capability and preparedness to offer its current Programme Quality Mix through blended and online modalities.
Dr Whitfield Green, CEO of the CHE, led a workshop with the Senior Management Team and gave a presentation to Senate on 12 March, about the nature and purpose of the QAF since it represents a significant change in the responsibilities of institutions and their relationship with the CHE in respect of promoting and assuring quality.
The engagements were pivotal for ensuring that we continue to deliver innovative and high-quality education that changes lives and enables brighter futures.
