Dr Naledi Pandor & Mr Nkosinathi Biko to lead a pivotal human rights dialogue at Sol Plaatje University

SPU’s Division of Student Affairs will host a Human Rights Day Dialogue on 21 March 2025 at 10:00 in the Library Auditorium on Central Campus.

Held under the theme “Leadership, Governance, and the Protection of Human Rights in a Democratic Society,” the dialogue will feature two distinguished keynote speakers. Dr Naledi Pandor, a highly respected stateswoman, academic, and current Chair of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, has played a pivotal role in shaping South Africa’s trajectory in education, science, technology, and international relations through her extensive leadership and policymaking contributions.

Mr Nkosinathi Biko, Founder and Executive Trustee of the Steve Biko Foundation, a thought leader and advocate for social justice, who continues to uphold the legacy of his father, the renowned anti-apartheid activist, Steve Biko.

Dr Pandor will lead a critical discourse on Leadership, Governance, and the Protection of Human Rights in a Democratic Society, offering insights into the evolving political and administrative landscape in South Africa. With an extensive career spanning ministerial leadership in science and technology, home affairs, higher education and international relations, Dr Pandor remains an instrumental figure in shaping South African policies that drive equality and development.

Mr Biko will provide a powerful reflection on the legacy of Steve Biko and the continuation of human rights advocacy, interrogating the role of leadership in advancing human rights and social justice in contemporary society.

In line with the DSA’s strategy on student engagement, the 2025 Human Rights Day Dialogue will serve as part of the multi-dimensional approach to student engagement which enables students to engage in meaningful discussions on the challenges and opportunities within leadership and governance frameworks in today’s complex and evolving world.
