Celebrating 11 years of excellence & SPU women in leadership this women’s month

This month, as Sol Plaatje University (SPU) celebrates its 11th birthday, we are excited to mark this milestone with a double celebration. In honour of Women’s Month, we are proud to share that SPU has been featured in the prestigious Standard Bank Top Women Leaders publication, which recognises the outstanding contributions of women in leadership roles.

This recognition, coinciding with our anniversary, highlights the exceptional contributions of the women who shape SPU and our society. Their leadership and dedication inspire our continued commitment to empowering women and fostering inclusivity and excellence, positioning SPU as a leader in gender equality.

At SPU, we are particularly proud to have a woman as Chairperson of Council, supported by a Council that includes six other prominent women. Within our Senior Management Team , we are honoured to have women leading as Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation & Postgraduate Studies, Chief Financial Officer, and Dean of Student Affairs. Additionally, 41% of our heads of departments are women, a third of our directors are women, and 71% of our senior managers are women. With 51% of our staff and 64% of our students being women, women at SPU are claiming their place and space.

As we continue to celebrate our 11th birthday during Women’s Month, let’s uplift and inspire one another, shaping a brighter future together!
