Greetings, SPU Class of 2024!

A hearty welcome and hats off to you for sailing through matric in such challenging times. Now, prepare to embark on an incredible and transformative journey at Sol Plaatje University (SPU).

The SPU Division of Student Affairs (DSA) is your guiding star during the much-anticipated Orientation Week – a rite of passage for all our First-Year students.

What’s Orientation Week? It’s a vibrant array of events and programmes designed to introduce you to your new academic and social circles. It’s an integral part of the First Year Experience (FYE) Programme, designed to spark connections, friendships, and familiarise you with a wealth of support initiatives SPU has on deck for every aspect of campus life.

Eager to know what’s in store? Here’s a sneak peek:

  • An introduction to your academic leaders, including your Dean of Faculty, the University Registrar and the Dean of Student Affairs.
  • Insight into the resources at the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Programme Development (CTLPD)– think academic writing, tutor support, and academic advising.
  • Discover the heartbeat of Kimberley with a campus and city tour.
  • A deep dive into essential academic tools you’ll be using, including Moodle, MS Team, and various learning support activities.

And for the grand welcome… Prof Andrew Crouch, SPU’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, will greet you at the Vice-Chancellor’s Official Welcome event at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre on 17 February 2024. This is a signature event for First Year students and their families.

Then get your walking shoes on! Join us and the entire SPU community for the 4.9km Big Walk on 24 February 2024. A day brimming with fun and festivity for everyone. Explore a wide range of stalls featuring games and attractions! Find out more about this epic day here.
