
The Faculty of Humanities invites you to the Kgosi Luka Jantjie Public Lecture, which will take place tomorrow. First introduced in 2022, the public lecture aims to build a deeper understanding of Kgosi Luka Jantjie’s impact on the broader Northern Cape community, and to strengthen collaboration between the Luka Jantjie Foundation and the University through the Faculty of Humanities.
This year’s keynote address will again be delivered by Kevin Shillington, a renowned historian and biographer. Shillington, who authored the biography of Kgosi Luka Jantjie following many years of research, will focus on “Making the Legacy of Kgosi Luka Jantjie Accessible to Young People”. His address will delve into his efforts to make the history of Kgosi Luka Jantjie more accessible to young learners through his latest book, which is designed as a history textbook for students.

About Kevin Shillington:
Kevin Shillington is a distinguished historian with over 23 publications on African history, including the critically acclaimed History of Africa. His body of work includes a biography of Cecil Rhodes, a full-length biography of Rhodes’ critic, Charles Warren, and, most notably, a biography of Kgosi Luka Jantjie. His keynote will shed light on the continued significance of Luka Jantjie’s legacy, particularly in how his life and leadership are now being introduced to younger generations through educational resources.
