SPU Arbor Week Symposium to Advance Sustainability and Resilience Solutions for a Changing Planet

The Sol Plaatje University Centre for Global Change (CGC) will host its 2026 Sustainability and Resilience Symposium as part of Arbor Week, bringing together researchers, industry experts, practitioners and students to explore innovative responses to some of the world’s most pressing environmental and sustainability challenges. Held under the theme Sustainability and Resilience: Innovation for a Resilient Planet, the symposium will provide a platform for knowledge exchange, research dissemination and dialogue on building more sustainable and resilient futures.

The symposium takes place on Wednesday, 3 September 2026, from 08:00 to 17:00, at the South Campus Hall, 50 Reservoir Road, Kimberley. The programme features oral and poster presentations that showcase current research, innovative practice, and emerging perspectives on sustainability and resilience.

Abstract submissions are invited for four thematic sessions:

Session 1: The Circular Economy: Integrating Science, Industry, and Society

Session 2: Food Security in a Changing Climate

Session 3: Environmental Restoration in a Changing Planet

Session 4: Bridging the Gap Between Science and Society

Each session is anchored by a keynote speaker: Dr Tiaan Oosthuizen (NetZero Nexus), Prof Nomali Ngobese (North-West University), Dr Ali Ali (University of Mpumalanga), and Dr Tolulope Olatoye (Sol Plaatje University).

The deadline for abstract submissions is 15 July 2026.
