Nelson Mandela Day, observed annually on 18 July, calls for people worldwide to spark transformation and inspire positive change in their communities.
As our commitment to societal betterment and community well-being, Sol Plaatje University (SPU) is also participating in Mandela Day 2023. The SPU Employee Wellness Office, in partnership with the Sol Plaatje Municipality and Interact at Northern Cape High School Rotary Club, invite you to join us in a public clean-up drive. This initiative aims to spruce up the area between Meyer Street and Hayston Road in the vicinity of the Northern Cape High School, making our community safer and more pleasant for both students as well as high school learners in the New Park area.
Recent years have seen escalating concerns over crime and student safety in areas surrounding our campus. The clean-up initiative, is our response to these concerns, signalling our determination to ensure a safer community and cultivating a spirit of unity and communal pride. As part of the build-up to this initiative, the municipality will this week commence with cleaning the New Park area and continue cleaning up various sections of the community until the end of July.
Participants will get the opportunity to engage with SPU staff and students, members from the Sol Plaatje Municipality and Interact at Northern Cape High School’s Rotary Club, all united under a shared goal. This event is more than a mere clean-up; it is a platform to raise consciousness about environmental stewardship. By joining us, participants visibly commit to creating a safer, cleaner community for all.
We invite everyone to participate in this event and make a lasting impact on our community. Let’s unite to shape a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant environment for all.
The Clean-up Initiative will take place as follows:
Date: 18 July 2023
