On 10 May 2023, the Moroka Hall of Residence Exam Hall on Central Campus became the bustling epicentre for the first Career Fair post-COVID, organised by the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) at Sol Plaatje University (SPU). Students, staff, and alumni enjoyed the opportunity to engage with a diverse array of 19 organisations. SPU’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Andrew Crouch and the Dean of Students Ms Nicole Morris joined students for a walkabout as they engaged with the exhibitors.
The purpose of the Career Fair is to provide students with an opportunity to engage with potential employers and gain insight to job opportunities and career paths available for them.
A significant number of students and alumni attended the event, visiting booths where they were given helpful information by the company representatives that could aid them in their job search or even starting their own businesses. The exhibitors handed out information packets containing comprehensive research on various career options. The career fair presented students with various opportunities such as bursaries, graduate programmes, vacation work and internships, enabling them to further develop their skills and abilities in their chosen careers.
The Career Fair underscored the pivotal role of education, illuminating it as the key to the future growth and prosperity of our generation. This is in line with the SPU Institutional Strategy of ensuring that quality graduates are produced and are employable.
