Sol Plaatje University (SPU) hosted a successful Alumni Dinner with Vice-Chancellor and Principal Prof Andrew Crouch on Sunday, 16 April 2023, in Kathu.
The dinner provided an opportunity for alumni to network, reconnect with their alma mater and foster stronger ties with the university. Alongside the alumni, guests included a SPU delegation led Prof Crouch; University Registrar, Dr Jody Cedras; Director for Special Projects, Mr Mark Everett, Director for Institutional Advancement, Mr Qondakele Sompondo; Chief of Staff, Ms Kashini Maistry; as well as Beeshoek Mine representatives Ms Boitumelo Seboko and Ms Motshidisi Witkooi.
In his address to guests, Prof Crouch thanked alumni as well as the Beeshoek Mine present at the event for their support: “It is through your continued support of our work that we can produce the kind of alumni you see here today.” Prof Crouch urged SPU alumni to support the University as ambassadors and share their achievements with the alumni office. As crucial ambassadors, alumni play a vital role in revenue generation, creating placement opportunities for students, and contributing to the growth and development of the institution.
Mr Sompondo thanked guests for attending the event and explained the purpose of the SPU’s Alumni Relations office: “I’m sure you have seen through the Alumni Newsletter that the office is sharing stories of your success and I hope you will continue to attend University events and share widely with other alumni. The alumni office is committed to supporting you and assist in forming an alumni association group in the John Taolo Gaetsewe region.” He encouraged alumni to update their contact details and become active in university activities.
Alumni are encouraged to regularly check the SPU website to stay informed about upcoming alumni events and programmes.
