Sol Plaatje University (SPU) is pleased to announce the upcoming launch of Decolonising African University Knowledge Volumes 1 and 2. You’re invited to join us on 10 November 2023 at Sol Plaatje University’s School of Education. The session is scheduled to take place in Auditorium B, Education Building, Central Campus, between 16:00 and 21:00.
SPU’s own Prof Amasa Ndofirepi, a respected professor with a PhD in Philosophy of Education from Wits University, co-edited these volumes with Felix Maringe, Simon Vurayai and Gloria Erima. The team brings forward a compelling analysis and debate on the possibility and processes of decolonising knowledge within African universities.
The volumes challenge existing paradigms and push for a curriculum that not only addresses the diverse backgrounds of African learners but also empowers voices historically marginalised in the global academic narrative. The editors have delved into issues of commodification of knowledge, equitable knowledge transformation, and the integration of indigenous systems, fostering a future where African universities are at the forefront of socially just and relevant education.
We encourage scholars, students, and all those interested in the advancement of African higher education and the decolonisation of its knowledge systems to take note of this event. It is an opportunity to engage with contemporary discussions and contribute to the shaping of an inclusive and diverse academic future.

We look forward to sharing this important work with the academic community and beyond.
